The best time to learn a new language?

Nowadays, learning new languages is not only vital but also a necessity. Many people sustain that the best learners are children, while others claim that the capability of adults is more suitable for learning. In this article the arguments both for and against this topic will be examined.

There is no question in my mind that when a person is a child his/her mind is like a parachute open to everything which is seen, read and written. As regards this aspect, it has been proven by National Language Society that a child has an ability to learn five languages at the same time. As a consequence, it can only be imagined the amount of information his brain would have.

Conveniently, I would like to share my own experience, I’m currently studying for taking the IELTS exam. Even though English is not my mother tongue, I’ve been learning it since I was a child, at elementary and high schools. On the contrary, my mother who is also studying English, can see how difficult it is for an adult to learn something new.

On the other hand, adults can often boast a major responsibility than the young. Moreover, their speed of learning depends on their childhood : if they were not taught to keep an open-mind, then the mind would act like a resistance to the flow of electricity.

To conclude, it has long been my belief that the best time to learn, not only languages but also any other subject is during childhood, when the brain is more lucid than later.
